Welsh micro businesses to benefit from renewable energy scheme

Hundreds of Welsh micro enterprises are set to benefit from a newly launched scheme helping to grow business through the deployment of renewable energy in Wales.

Ceredigion County Council and funded by the
Welsh Assembly and the
European Union, '
Renewable Energy for Business Growth’ (
Ynni i Ffynnu) aims to help over 220
small companies in Ceredigion, Wales, find suitable
renewable energy solutions and generate revenue for their business.
"[The scheme] has already contacted 3,500 businesses offering to undertake an independent energy survey of the business to assess where
renewables would be most appropriately applied," said Andy Boroughs, managing director of green energy firm, Organic Energy, which is involved in the scheme.
Energy auditsThe programme offers free on-site energy audits and aims to install 74 renewable energy projects and help companies benefit from the Govenrment’s Feed-in Tariff and Renewable Heat Incentive schemes. It will also identify potential external financial support to help with the cost of installation measures.
Renewable Energy for Business Growth is available to micro enterprises within Ceredigion with fewer than 10 staff and an annual turnover of less than £2 million. Businesses involved in forestry, agriculture and tourism are not eligible to apply for the programme.
A series of seminars will be held about the scheme at the Ceredigion Energy Trade Fair in Aberystwyth on October 22.
The project is being managed in partnership with Severn Wye Energy Agency and Ecodyfi and runs until November 2013.
