Volkswagen (VW) will shortly unveil a single-seat electric vehicle (EV) and is planning to offer green energy packages to its EV customers, it has been reported.
VW told the
Financial Times it would unveil the concept car "within weeks" as part of its goal to lead the market in
EV and other technologies. The German carmaker said it also plans to start selling
renewable energy to electric car customers through a "full-service package".
Jurgen Leohold, head of research at VW, would not reveal full details of the one-seater EV, but described it as a "new kind of mobility" designed for small journeys, such as commuting. The car would be zero emission if charged using
renewable energy, he added.

In a bid to do this, the company plans to launch VW EV packages that include renewable energy.
"You buy a VW, you get a VW energy package, and all your visions are fulfilled," Leohold to the FT.
Other electric cars
VW reportedly wants EV cars to make up three per cent of its sales by 2018. As part of these plans, the carmaker will launch electric versions of its Golf and the Up! small car in 2013.
The company, meanwhile, is investing in renewable energy projects in an effort to reduce carbon emissions at its manufacturing plants by 40 per cent by 2020.
