Dutch metals recycling firm Van Dalen said it is aiming to double its capacity in the UK over the next three years following a £6 million investment in its operations.
Van Dalen confirmed today production has begun at a new multi-million pound
ferrous shredder and non-ferrous facility at its
Sheffield headquarters. The company, which supplies major steel mills and foundries in the UK, has invested a total of £6 million in the new plant as well as in expanding its
facilities in the south east. It said the new
investment would see the creation of up to 25 additional jobs.
Business growthThe UK investment follows a strong 12 months of business for the 65-year old Dutch business, which has been operating in Britain for the past 12 years. During 2011, total UK capacity increased to 500,000 tonnes per year, the company said. Van Dalen said it now planned to double that figure over the next three years, through a mixture of operational investments and strategic partnerships.
"Although market conditions have been challenging, we’ve had a really positive 12 months," Van Dalen UK managing director Tom Bird said. "Going forward, the shredder will transform our Sheffield facility, making it a state-of-the-art metal
recycling centre."
Van Dalen currently operates 17 shredding and baling sites in the UK and Northern Europe. The company, which has seen year-on-year growth for the past five years, recyles over 1.5 million tonnes of metal across Europe and employs around 100 people in the UK.
