Training GreenWire: Internationally recognised IfE benefits from links with Government agencies
27th October 2011
The Institute for the Environment (IfE) is part of Brunel University: a campus based University situated west of London, close to Heathrow airport and major motorway networks, and with rail and tube links into central London.
IfE is recognised internationally for its research in environmental science, and benefits from strong international links with pharmaceutical industries (e.g. AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Glaxo), water companies, and Government authorities such as the UK and European Environment Agencies and UK Government Department of Environment, Food and Rural affairs (DEFRA) – all charged with protecting the environment and health of humans and wildlife.
Every project we undertake, whether it be analysing air pollution and its impact on human health, gauging the threat posed by the presence of specific chemicals in drinking water or investigating what major climatic events in the past can tell us about the future, is rooted in the belief that understanding environmental change is vital for the global community. Members of the Institute strive to further the public understanding of their research, taking part in public meetings, lectures and contributing to non-academic books and news stories, because the science we deliver is designed to have an impact on society and its relationship with the environment around us.
In addition to the research and consultancy the Institute for the Environment conducts, it delivers Postgraduate research supervision (MPhil and PhD) and postgraduate taught programmes (MSc) in Environmental Sciences.
