Rothschild to give green start-ups helping hand

Investment and corporate bank Rothschild has launched a green mentoring programme to help environmental start-ups grow their businesses.
The mentoring programme is being run in partnership with the Mayday Network, the charity Business in the Community’s campaign to encourage UK business to act on climate change. Rothschild is a leading member of the Mayday Network and will provide mentors from its global financial advisory business to environmental start-ups who are members of the network and successfully apply for the programme.

"We have noticed lately that there has been an increase in new and innovative start-ups from the environmental sector signing up [to the Mayday Network]," said Katie Webber, campaign director of the Mayday Network. "We wanted to be able to support these businesses in a more tailored way and the Rothschild mentoring programme enables us to do this. "

The Rothschild mentoring programme will provide the start-ups with professional business support and advice to grow their business. The mentoring programme is free but those joining it will need to be members of the Mayday Network and will need to be operating in the low carbon goods and services sector. Some experience in setting up their own business will also be required.

Other mentoring
The Mayday Network has been running mentoring programmes with its larger members for some time now. It already has a programme up and running with the Lloyds Banking Group and last year partnered with the Federation of Small Businesses to make its mentoring programmes accessible to more small firms.

The deadline for applications for the Rothschild mentoring programme is May 20 2011.
