A number of potential buyers have come forward to buy some or all of the assets of Proven Energy Ltd, the long established small wind manufacturer that folded this month following a fault with one of its turbines.
The fate of Scottish-based
Proven Energy will be decided shortly by receivers
KPMG, which have set today (September 27) as the closing date for final offers to be submitted.
"We are pleased to confirm there was an encouraging level of interest expressed by potential purchasers during the marketing period, which culminated in several offers being submitted at the [initial] closing date," Blair Nimmo, joint receiver and head of Restructuring for KPMG in Scotland, said.
Offers have ranged from those seeking to buy certain assets of the company to those looking to buy the whole company, Nimmo added. One prospective buyer is Icon Energy, a Scottish based
renewable energy installer. The company released a statement last week confirming it had made an offer.
"Icon Energy continue to maintain strong representation within the group of prospective purchasers and we are involved in detailed negotiations with investment partners, whom perceive the Proven brand to remain an excellent ambassador for micro-renewable wind technologies," the statement read.
Technical fault
Established more than 30 years ago, Proven called in the receivers on September 16 after it was forced to stop trading due to a technical defect with its flagship wind turbine, the Proven 35-2. The turbine makes up around 15 per cent of Proven’s fleet, which also includes the P-7 and P-11 turbines, neither of which have been affected by the fault. The cause of the technical problem is not yet known.
Proven has sold over 3000 turbines worldwide. The company’s collapse has led to 55 redundancies to date.
In a statement KPMG said "every effort" was being made to try to keep the business alive and "achieve the best result for all stakeholders."
The deadline for final and unconditional offers for Proven is at 5pm today.
