An environmental audit company and a renewable energy specialist have teamed up to provide a new service that aims to help commercial and residential property owners assess their energy use and put in place strategies to cut bills and reduce their carbon footprints.
Under the new arrangement, Envos – which specialises in environmental and energy use audits for commercial and residential property, including Energy Performance Certificates, BREEAM, Display Energy Certificates and Code for Sustainable Homes – will provide British Eco’s clients with in-depth energy use surveys.
A spokesperson for the new partnership said the survey will cover very similar things to a Domestic Energy Performance Certificate, “but will come out with better recommendations because the assessment will be carried out by a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor”.
Once the survey has been completed, micro generation and renewable energy technology supplier British Eco, will use the information to recommend solutions to reduce the environmental impact of the properties. Likely solutions range from wind turbines to solar panels and rainwater harvesting to high efficiency insulation.
Although the new partnership was unable to put a figure on the likely cost savings its combined service will deliver, the spokesperson said: “Building owners will typically save between 15 per cent and 40 per cent of their energy usage by implementing the measures recommended after one of these surveys, depending on the energy efficiency of their building and the way they use it.”
The service – which is aimed at older properties as well as new-builds – will charge £250 for the initial energy use survey, but if the client then implements Envos’s recommendations using British Eco as supplier, the cost of the survey will be refunded.
“The strategic partnership between Envos and British Eco is a logical step for both companies,” said Wade Barker, managing director of Envos. “We both specialise in the residential and commercial property space, advising clients on ways to boost energy efficiency and improve the carbon footprint of buildings – we just approach the challenge from different angles, with Envos providing the initial survey and audit and British Eco recommending the technologies and steps needed to address the problems that the audits reveal.”
The new partnership, he added, would allow the two companies to provide their clients with “a more comprehensive service that delivers real cost savings and environmental benefits to their property portfolios”.
Both Envos and British Eco are independent, franchise-based businesses. Currently Envos has offices in London, Kent, Birmingham, Northants, Devon, Glasgow and Edinburgh, while British Eco operates out of Berkshire and Kent. However, both companies are looking for a nationwide presence and following this new strategic partnership, it is intended that they will mirror each other’s operations as they expand across the UK.
