The Open Planet Ideas expert panel, including representatives from Sony, WWF and IDEO have extended the evaluation stage of the project as they seek to select a finalist from the three most captivating concepts.
The
Greenbook by Siniuc, the Identifying & Recording Wildlife concept by Juliet Wilson and the
Network of Real-time Wireless Micro Weather Stations for Microclimate Monitoring by Regis Zimmer were all seen to have significant development potential. In order to select one final idea for development, the panel will consult with the concept creators to enable a decision on the final concept having the greatest potential and scope.
Emily Nicoll, general manager of environmental communications, Sony Europe said: "This has been an open, community based project throughout – and we will embrace the decision-making process with this same ethos. The expert panel are really keen to further investigate the 'top three’ favourites in more depth, which will involve consultation with the creators and additional investigation into their technical feasibility and overall potential."
The next steps for the Open Planet Ideas team will include contacting the conceptors behind these top three ideas to arrange video-conferencing to discuss their concepts further. The community is also encouraged to continue the discussions about each idea, as the panel is keen to achieve the best potential from the final concept. It is expected that a final decision will be reached at the end of January 2011.
