Government launches consultation on the future of the country’s water supplies

The Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has today launched a public consultation on how to manage the country's water supplies in the future.
The online survey will aim to gauge public opinion on future resource needs, charging and affordability, ahead of the Government’s Water White Paper, due to be published early next summer.

The UK is facing increasing pressure on its water supplies due to climate change and a growing population. This summer the North West faced a hosepipe ban just six months after the region felt the effects of severe flooding.

Environment Minister Richard Benyon said: "Recent events have shown just how fragile our water supplies are and how we need to manage them properly in the future. It’s an issue that affects all of us, so we want to give everyone the chance to get involved in drawing up solutions."

The survey can be accessed on the Defra website.
