The UK Met Office has issued a severe weather alert warning of heavy rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, which could trigger flooding.
A band of heavy rain is forecast to sweep across parts of England on Tuesday before a second, much larger, rain storm will bring with it torrential downpours on Wednesday.

The two-day deluge will fall on already saturated ground, leading to fears of flooding. The Environment Agency is expected to announce a third-day flood alert on Sunday.

Today's Met Office Severe Weather Warning is valid from 00.00 on Tuesday through to 23.59 on Wednesday and is in effect for North West England and parts of Yorkshire & Humber as well as the West and East Midlands.

The amber alert, issued today, warns: "Outbreaks of rain will occasionally become heavy and prolonged during Tuesday and Wednesday. With the ground already saturated this may lead to localised surface water flooding and disruption."
