A Wiltshire-based service provider of environmentally friendly water dispensers is proving that green credentials can be good for business in tough economic times.
Premier Watercoolers supplies dispensers that replace traditional bottled water with
mains-fed water and also offer the latest in
energy efficient technology. The company, which supplies around 10,000 water dispenser units in the UK, says more and more businesses are turning to its products because of their
environmental benefits.
"We’ve identified a lot of businesses that want to replace bottled water with mains-fed because of the environmental benefits," said founder and managing director Phil Langley. "We don’t have to deliver the water [thereby cutting transportation emissions by 100 per cent], but it’s also about equipment efficiency and maintenance. Premier’s sealed systems means they only have to be serviced twice a year instead of four times."
According to Langley, the company is set for record growth after turning a profit of £330,000 for the first time last year. "We expect to double that profit in 2010 on a turnover of £3.5 million," he said.
The company, which was launched eight years ago by Langley and counts John Cullum, successful businessman and father of jazz star Jamie Cullum, among its backers, has grown its customer base by 32 per cent year on year and currently has around 2,500 business customers. These include recruitment solutions provider, Reed, Associated Media, and recently signed up BMI Healthcare.
Carbon emissions assessment scheme
Two years ago, the company launched a
carbon emissions assessment scheme to enable companies to measure the CO2 emissions from their water dispenser units in order to make informed decisions about their environmental impact.
These reports show that compared to bottled water coolers, Premier’s latest cold water dispenser, Ecopure, can produce energy savings of up to 27 per cent and cut CO2 emissions by more than half. In excess of 90 per cent of the Ecopure unit is recyclable, including the filters.
By switching to its mains-fed dispensers, Premier says Reed is saving 15.3 tonnes of CO2 per annum – around 80 per cent less emissions than when it used bottled water dispensers – while Associated Media is saving 1.43 tonnes a year.
As well as the environmental benefits, Langley is keen to get the message across that mains fed-water also tastes good. "We have such good quality water in the UK there is no reason not to drink it," he said.
