Car manufacturer BMW Group is to provide a fleet of BMWs and Minis to support the Energy Saving Trust’s ‘Smarter Driving’ programme, which helps businesses get their employees to drive more efficiently.
Just under 20 vehicles are being donated to the programme, including 1 and Five Series BMWs, which together are expected to help teach up to 26,000 people more economical driving techniques.
Smarter Driving, which costs £25 per person, teaches employees practical techniques on how to run their vehicles more efficiently, thereby cutting fuel bills and carbon emissions. Delivered under the DriveSense training programme, it is estimated drivers who take part in the programme can save on average up to £250 per year on fuel as well as slash their CO2 emissions.
BMW said its fleet was an ideal match for the Smarter Driving programme because of BMW’s ‘EfficientDynamics’ technology, which is contained in the vehicles being donated. EfficientDynamics includes technologies such as Auto Start-Stop, Brake Energy Regeneration and Optimum Shift Indicators, all of which help to ensure vehicles containing them emit between 104 grams of CO2 per kilometre (g/km) and 128g/km.
Stephen Chater, BMW Group Corporate Operations manager, said: “We are delighted to be part of a scheme which benefits not only the drivers but their employers and the wider environment too. The BMW Group fleet promises to offer participants a dynamic and engaging experience allowing them to easily adopt a Smarter Driving style.”
